Joining Us

If you are coming to Brunei on a posting, then this page will help you follow the correct procedures and actions you need to take to be able to register and enrol your children to Hornbill School. This is also the process for all children aged 0-11.

Step 1

You have been given notice to move to Brunei. To begin the Educational Supportability Procedures please send the MOD Form 101 to our school admissions secretary at the following email address: [email protected]

Step 2

Hornbill School will send forms to your child’s current school and discuss your child’s progress, attainment and any specific educational needs.  Your child’s current school will fill in and return to Hornbill an Education Overseas Supportability form.

Step 3

If Hornbill School are able to support your child / children during your tour of Brunei, then you will receive a certificate of Educational Clearance known as a Letter A or Letter B. You will also receive an application form for admission into Hornbill School.

If we feel that your child has significant needs and we need to seek further advice from their current school or the Educational Phycologist Team, then we will contact you and begin separate process to see if your child / children’s needs can be met.

Please note: Children without Educational Clearance cannot proceed with your posting to Brunei.

In some cases, it can take up to 9 weeks for Educational Clearance to be decided.

Step 4 – Prior to arrival in Brunei

Once you have received your Educational Clearance Certificate please keep us informed of your expected date of arrival in Brunei, this will enable us to ensure that we are ready to welcome you and your child and ensure that they settle into life at Hornbill School or Treetops Setting (Fee paying) as quickly as possible.

Step 5

Once your date of arrival is confirmed please contact our school admissions secretary at the following email address: [email protected] and we will arrange a tour of the school for you on a date that is convenient to yourselves following your arrival.

In order to fully induct every child and to tell you about our school, the tour will always be conducted by a member of the Strategic Leadership Team.

During the tour it is a great opportunity for us to start getting to know your child. It also enables you to have an insight into the school and begin to understand our expectations of you and your child and how you can support your child’s learning journey while in Brunei.

So long as all of your child / children’s paperwork is complete and you have purchased full uniform we will usually arrange for them to start school with us the next day.

Step 6

It can take up to 6 months for a child to feel settled in a new school. We will work with you and your child to make sure that they are as settled and involved in school life to help counter the effects of mobility.

Additional: An average child can ‘lose’ up to 3 months of knowledge when moving schools (this is called the Mobility Dip). Children who move more often can lose up to 4 months for each move they make. We try to counter this by providing an outstanding learning environment with excellent teaching and learning opportunities, an exciting theme based education and a wide variety of educational experiences which could not be found in the UK.

Records to bring with you in your hand luggage.

In order for your child / children to recommence their learning journey when you arrive in Brunei, you will need to bring with you all previous school reports and any report which includes information about progress and attainment. Please do not send this in your shipment – it will need to be brought to school on your induction tour.
